How to Make a Fairy Flower Headpiece
by Gina Marie

Materials Needed

  • One Plain Undecorated Plastic Headband
  • Craft Wire 26 Gauge
  • Floral Wire
  • Wire Cutters
  • Glue Gun
  • Glue Sticks
  • Beads of Choice
  • Reindeer Moss
  • Silk Flower Spray of Choice
  • Silk Flower Single Bud with Wire of Choice (we used ten silk roses)
  • Silk Leaves of Choice
  • Wide Ribbon
  • Thin Ribbon

For this head piece we started by making the little beaded wire embellishments that are attached in later construction steps. Cut five long lengths of craft wire, and cut four shorter lengths. We used four inch lengths for the longer ones, and three inches for the shorter lengths. Using the wire cutter, bend a tiny loop onto on end of each cut wire. Now you can place the beads, in any combination you feel is pleasing to your eye. Beads can be secured on the wire with a bit of hot glue to hold them in place. When you have finished this step set aside the beaded wire embellishments for later use.

Next using the hot glue gun, you need to glue chunks of the reindeer moss to the head band.

Now cut three lengths of floral wire, about three inches long. Use these wires to attach the silk flower spray to the head band covered with moss.
One wire for each end and one wire for in the middle.

Now place each individual bud onto the head piece, and stick the wires through the moss as pictures below.

When you have each bud placed where you want it, gently lift each one up a bit and secure with hot glue. Don't worry about the hanging wire stems at this point. Just secure each bud with glue to the moss.

After each bud is glued in place, using the extra wire, to wrap up and around the covered head band, to further secure the buds. Clip off any extra wire, and fold end into moss tightly to prevent wire from poking your head during wear.

Now is the time to add the longer lengths of beaded wire embellishments you made earlier. Poke them into the moss, playing around with placement until you have them all where you want them Then use the extra wire poking through to secure each piece to the covered head band.

Now you can begin hot gluing your leaves to the piece. We used ivy leaves cut individually from their spray. Placing them here and there on the front and the back, to provide pretty filler for the floral arrangement on the headband.

Now it is time to make the ribbon attachments that are for each side of the headpiece. Cut four lengths of each width ribbon. Our lengths were one and one half feet long. Tie one wide and one thin into a pretty bow, repeat with left over tow ribbons.

Next using one individual leaves wrap two of the shorter beaded wire embellishments around it with the wire folding to the back side of the leaf as pictures. Repeat with one more leaf.

Now using your hot glue glue the one bow tied ribbon to the front of the leaf taking care to cover the stem. repeat with other leaf and ribbon bow.

Now glue one of these to each side of the headband, near the bottoms where the flowers end.

You have now completed a beautiful little magical, flower strew head piece to accessorize your fairy wear!
